Two is enough when it’s me plus you!

Two is enough for
joy . . .
love . . .
comfort . . .
support . . .
celebration . . .
a family.

From playing in the snow to a rainy-day ride, to double-scoop treats and crash-landing in leaves, two can be the perfect number for creating life’s memories. And two can definitely be enough for a warm family, full of the love, support, and comfort that every child needs.

  • “Each sweetly illustrated page is just a glimpse of everyday life, but for children in two-person families surrounded by bigger clans, also a reminder of the immense love in their own homes, too.”
    —The New York Times
"Mourning's wispy figures playfully cavort through the four seasons, with large smiles, high-fives, and hugs. There is no shortage of encouragement and love."
    —Kirkus Reviews
"[I]n this tribute to single parents and their singleton offspring . . . Matthies never explicitly compares these families to others, nor does she talk about the choices or circumstances that created the pairings. She keeps her message simple and clear: Head counts don't matter. All you need is love."
    —Publishers Weekly
“This sweet picture book is a warm and loving celebration of tiny families.—Booklist

About the Author

Janna Matthies is a picture-book author, music teacher, pastor’s wife, and mother of three. Her newest title, Here We Come!, is forthcoming from Beach Lane Books/S&S. Janna’s other picture books include Two is Enough (Running Press Kids), which made the 2016 Bank Street list and The New York Times Book Review; and The Goodbye Cancer Garden (Albert Whitman), which earned a School Library Journal starred review and Best Foreign Language Children’s Book at the Sharjah International Book Fair. When she’s not writing or making music, Janna can be found digging in the garden, swimming laps, or keeping up with her family in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Airin O’Callaghan was born in Boston, but her family moved to Barcelona only 6 months later, to be where her parents were from. Since then, she has lived in the Netherlands, attending the University of Amsterdam, and then San Francisco, where she earned her MFA in illustration. Her inspiration comes from her early childhood in Spain, where she spent a lot of time surrounded by family and playing in nature. Her family is very warm and expressive, and her grandmother taught her to pay a specific kind of attention to detail. Airin lives in Berkeley, California.
