This charming follow up to Oliver and his Alligator is a jubilant celebration of friendship and playing pretend!

When Oliver spots a rock on the playground, he knows it’s not just any rock — he’s sure it’s a dinosaur egg. And once it hatches, he has the best new friend he could ask for. They sail to a deserted island and even launch into outer space. But as great as it is to travel with his dinosaur alone, Oliver realizes that it is even more fun when all of his friends bring their imaginations along for the ride!

Don’t miss the first book about Oliver, Oliver and His Alligator!

  • "Schmid's characteristic pastel pencil illustrations cleverly juxtapose the rock and the child's hopes for it on the same page or spread, and the art and simple story line capture the possibilities of imagination and the tender but often tenuous nature of playtime dynamics. The large, uncluttered pictures that stand out on ample white space make the book a good choice for group sharing."
    School Library Journal
  • "This young boy's imagination is a powerful force for helping him deal with life... Masterful use of white space and page turns."
    Kirkus Reviews
  • "The pacing is perfect."
